Both Sagarmatha FC and Lidcombe Gurkhas came with a win but had to work hard for it.
Sagarmatha FC (SFC )defeated promising Neutral Bay FC (NBFC) by 3 goals to 2 where as Lidcombe had a convincing start but had to fight in the end for 4-2 win against Club Nepal.
It was only in last 5 minutes when SFC scored 2 late goals to win their opening match. NBFC playing with mostly new players played a very competitive game and made Sagarmatha boys work hard for the result. It was Neutral Bay who opened the account when SFC keeper miss judge the through ball and Andrew had a free shot on the free post. This goal did shocked not only Sagarmatha but also the crowd who were expecting Sagarmatha to dominate the game. Binam equalised through the mid way of first half for sagarmatha to ease some pressure off.
As the game was heading for a draw a miss communication between the Sagarmatha defence line gave Andrew of NBFC a clear chance to score his second of the match and he made no mistake.
But it was only in last few minutes when Binam scored his second of the game from penalty spot and Kewal scored a tricky free-kick to give defending champion a winning start.
After a hard fought win, SFC captain had to say, "Not impressive at all... we were just lucky to be a winner today.. we need to improve a lot if we need the same result that we acheived last year... many respect to NBFC boys .. they made us work really hard... "
In the second match of the opening day, Lidcombe Gurkhas did dominate the start of the game and scored 2 quick goals. Club Nepal did had a few good chances but the strong defence of Lidcombe Gurkhas never gave Club Nepal much space to capitalised on their chances.
While dominating the most of the first half Lidcombe Gurkhas were rocked when Rockdale scored and bought game to another level.
However winner for NAWS 2006, Lidcombe Gurkhas manage to score 2 more goals to win the game by 4-2.
